What is DNS - Domain Name System?
It is one of the most important and essential part of the internet analogy and naming system for the subsequent services, PCs and all other sub heads and resources which comes under the column of internet.
Most signifying function of the domain system is to convert the domain names that we generally comes across or which is understood by humans easily into binary or numeric numbers or identifiers in relation with networking system to relocate the devices or services globally.
DNS is the only way and system through which a flock of web participants can have meaningful names even if the location physically be different. The example that one can give regarding the function of DNS is that it converts domain names like xyz.com into 220.54.288.987.
The reason why DNS came into existence was the increasing need of efficiency and systematic approach to make things look better and safer. This is because every PC and every internet accessing device has a unique identifying IP addresses and these addresses can be easily found out by using the DNS system as DNS is responsible for maintaining the system.
The DNS has a large network and it functions with the help of many servers under it and those are called DNS servers. ICANN or the internet corporation which is responsible for numbers and names in internet has the responsibility of managing the root DNS of the web space available for names.
DNS server is like no other server available on net. This is because it has the largest database of numbers in form of IP address and there are so many requests hitting the internet everyday for asking the location of these websites.
The task of DNS system may look easy in terms of computer system in comparison to other system structures but one should understand that there are many tasks that DNS have to fulfil to get the status it has.
It should be kept in mind that there are billions of websites having their own specialized IP addresses and each and every computer and website has names which can read an understood by humans. This is where DNS comes in.
Then there are many IP address which counts in billions which change everyday and more and more number of requests for new IP addresses come in everyday.
There are many domains names which are adding up to the DNS database everyday and this cycle never ends and is ever increasing. There are many jobs available and their job is to add and give domain names and IP address to the users who requests.
IT can be said that DNS is the backbone of the internet analogy and its only because of the DNS that there are so many variations and the flexibility seen in internet with so much ease. It has DNS client service station where all the queries generated from the user PC comes in and if the problem is not sorted out, the solution is requested from DNS server.
Thus, we see that such a complex and vast database also is handled in a sophisticated and systematic way that is making internet a easy play for us.
